Magnolia Community Center Stabilization

Updated: June 11, 2024

Construction Has Begun!

Seattle Parks and Recreation (SPR) is excited to announce Kassel & Associates, Inc. was awarded the construction contract for the Magnolia Community Center Stabilization Project. The Contractor will mobilize and begin interior abatement work on June 10, 2024. Community members will see construction fencing erected closely around the Community Center to allow continued sidewalk access. Kassel & Associates has elected to house the job site office within the building to reduce the staging footprint onsite.  A construction staging area will be delineated and parking lot improvements will begin after the last day of school, June 20th, to provide uninterrupted access to the parking lot for Catherine Blaine Elementary teachers, staff, children, and their families as they celebrate the final days of the school year. Selective demolition and seismic upgrades will begin in early July and continue throughout the summer. We anticipate window installation and mechanical upgrades in late summer/early fall.

Thank you to the Community for your input, advocacy and support during the planning and design stages of this project. We will continue to update you on the progress (with photos!) in the upcoming months.

Kassel & Associates, Inc. was awarded the construction contract for the project and was granted a Notice to Proceed (NTP) on June 10, 2024. The facility will be closed for a minimum of a year during construction for the extensive building and accessibility upgrades.

SPR is working closely with Seattle Public Schools, Catherine Blaine Elementary and the Contractor to coordinate the construction schedule and School activities to minimize disruption during the school year.
